Soweto Kinch – jazz saxophonist, hip-hop artist, curator and presenter – has developed an enviable presence on the UK music scene.

He will be hosting a special edition in Sunderland of his acclaimed latenight Radio 3 show ’Round Midnight, which celebrates the best in jazz from all eras and around the globe, with a particular focus on new UK artists.

‘There’s such a breadth and diversity of expression within what we call jazz,’ says Kinch. So expect an eclectic mix of special guests and chat, steered by Kinch’s guiding hand and propelled by his gift for drawing audiences into the orbit of his wide-ranging passions.

So expect an eclectic mix of special guests and chat, including Grammy-nominated jazz trumpeter Theo Croker, who performs tracks from his hotly anticipated new album Dream Manifest, and the boundary-pushing Joe Webb Trio, which celebrates Oscar Peterson 100 years after his birth. Opening the evening is North East jazz artist Rivkala, recently spotlighted by BBC Introducing as one of their 'Ones to Watch for 2025’.
