As part of Sunderland’s citywide celebrations to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day, there will be a special concert at the Fire Station. The evening VE Day celebrations will take place at The Fire Station who are hosting a special VE Day concert. This will include performances from a bugle player, vintage singers, readings from dignitaries and Veterans, and a segment from Alfie Joey.
Tickets for this event will cost £5 and go on sale Friday 4th April. This concert will be part of the wider VE Day celebrations taking place across Sunderland. This includes a street part on Keel Square, charitable cake sale organised by the WI, and a lantern parade.
Councillor Beth Jones, Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture and Tourism at Sunderland City Council, said: “Commemorating VE day is so important to remember the sacrifices and resilience of our ancestors, especially in Sunderland where we were bit hard by bombing.”
“The concert at the Fire Station is a fantastic opportunity for residents to celebrate 80 years since the end of the Second World War in a great local venue.”
The Fire Station auditorium which opened in 2021 following restoration of the 1907 Edwardian fire station will seat 550 ticket holders for the concert.
